Aquatic Habitat Assessment

H3M conducted a site reconnaissance to assess the condition and gathered a soil sample for landfill suitability analysis. Despite being biodegradable, the fatty-acid products were oil-based and exceeded Alberta Tier 1 Guidelines for hydrocarbons. A silica gel cleanup was performed to remove biogenic compounds, confirming the substance as biogenic and meeting landfill disposal criteria. Hydrovac was used to remove the remaining oil, and embankment soils were excavated for landfill disposal.

Erosion control measures were implemented to stabilize the site and prevent sediment migration, ensuring slope stability before revegetation. H3M efficiently addressed the released substance, minimizing risks to human health and wildlife by reducing the potential attraction of food oil to animals.
